Red Bull BPM dj app for iPhone and iPad leaves much to be desired

Red Bull has released a dj app which turns the iPhone and iPad into a dj console. The release of Red Bull BPM consists of a series of three apps with both full as free versions.

Toy
I tested the free version and it didn’t really convince me. The lack of loop functionality, no storage for hot cue’s and the need of extra software and hardware for monitor output makes the app more a toy than a professional tool. For this, the price of the full iPad version of 24,99 € is far too high.

More time
Still, it’s a good try. The basic functionality like cueing, bending and syncing works quite good. Also the effect section is nice. Red Bull should take more time to develop the app and offer an attractive price plan. Then the dj app could be appealing for rookies as well as pro’s. For now, djing on the iPad (and iPhone) is just a gimmick.

Book tip: ‘Steve Jobs’, an unofficial biography. Special thanx to Yas & Mas

Today Apple is one of the coolest brands on earth. And CEO Steve Jobs deserves most of the credits for this. But Jobs was not always that succesful.

Comeback kid
For my birthday I have got the Dutch unofficial biography of Steve Jobs, titled ‘Steve Jobs’ (thanx to Yas & Mas). The book is very entertaining and reveals a lot of inside stories from the company. Reading the book you discover that Jobs is above all a fantastic comeback kid. As well in business as in his personal live.

This internal promotion video from the eighties proves that even Apple had once a very bad taste.

I recommend this Dutch biography to everyone who is interested in the stories behind the rise and downfalls of the Apple imperium.

I am still in love with Homeworld 2

In 2003 Homeworld 2 was released. Playing this game back in the days made me fall in love with computer games for good.

Epic
The combination of epic 3D space battle’s, fantastic sound design and the cinematographic story telling made me lose every track of time or space. I lost the game after I moved several times into new homes, so I bought the game lately on eBay, for 5 euro’s, a total bargain.

Shiver
Now, seven years later I installed the game again. Watching the intro makes everything comes back. Messages like, ‘this is fleet command’ , or ‘group 1 is standing by’ makes me shiver.

Hope
For years, the web is full of rumours of a possible release of the sequel Homeworld 3. But at this point, it looks like those rumours are rahter based on hope than on reality. I’ll keep on hoping with all the fans.
