In 1982, American-based 7-UP got in touch with a UK agency to get a 30 second tune made by someone who was ‘happening’ at the time to advertise their drink.
Expecting something punk
So the agency contacted new wave hero Gary Numan and offered a £10,000 deal. He recorded 3 pieces of music with lyrics supplied by them. When the recordings were sent to the Americans they had not heard any music like this. They were expecting something in a punk style as that had just arrived overseas. Numan’s recordings were never used.
Classic
This demo is a great historical find of aliveinsound. What would have happened if 7-UP approved the demo? I think it’s definitely a classic commercial tune. So, what are we waiting for: Let’s remix! (Before YouTube removes it due to copyright violation).

I don’t knwow for sure, but it could have been that 7-UP finally chose for the famous song of Kim Carnes. Her song is from the same period and I have to admit it’s a classic too:
